Backyard Discovery Shenandoah Swing Set

I didn't purchase this backyard swing set from Amazon, my son did. I have to say it's a great swing set the kids love it. It arrived in two large boxes which are very heavy. The first thing you notice is the smell of cedar, and how neatly every piece is packed. The instruction manual is large and very easy to follow because all the parts are clearly marked. With only a basic knowledge of wood working and the ability to follow directions it took my son and my son in law about 10 hours to complete....I do recommend keeping a bar of soap handy to put on the threads of the screws to prevent splitting the wood.

Lot's of parts and assembly steps but everything is clearly marked/labelled. I built most of it myself, however, putting the slide together is definitely a two person job (thankfully I had help with that). There are other steps that a helper comes in handy; even if just finding and organizing the parts for each step. It is an absolute must to have a drill with quick change bits. The part kit includes a special bit for installing the majority of the hardware but, you will also need a phillips head driver. I strongly suggest using a cordless battery operated drill so that you don't have an electrical cord to bother with.

I was very sceptical to buy this...but it was worth it!!!! It arrives in two very large very heavy boxes...I laid out every piece of wood and matched them the best I could with the number system (which makes this very easy to assemble)...the only advice I have is to start at page one and do everything page by page and it will go smoothly. Took me by my self about 12 hours total to assemble.

Absolutely love it! My daughter plays in it all the time! It was more difficult to assemble then we thought but once professionals had finished it it was worth every penny. It will keep her outdoors and playing for hours and hours instead of sitting in front of the TV.

Exactly as shown in picture. Wasn’t the easiest to put together but got it. Some boards had stress cracks before installed but still sturdy and the kids love it.

This is exactly what we were looking for, 16 hours to assemble, the instructions were very good and the whole family chipped in. Definitely organize all wood and hardware beforehand. To all of the negative reviews about 'cheap' wood, keep in mind this is for children not adults or 200 lb teenagers. Our girls love it. We are very happy.

It took me a while to make a final decision to make this purchase as our oldest is already turning 8. And after the assembly, zero regrets! This thing is a good size, good height (For reference my husband is 6 foot tall and my daughter is 5 years, 8 months old since you’ll see their height in the video). The whiny reviews were also off putting. Lol. I documented my husband’s playset assembly journey here. It was a huge endeavor for sure but he single handedly put it together. I would say 99% he didn’t ask for another human for help. It was only at the very end which I’ll get to that.He said, with zero interruptions, the playset takes 2 days to put together. That’s essentially what happened, it was his entire weekend. This actually arrived on a Tuesday and he immediately unboxed it. Sorted all the pieces. We have a 4 car garage and our vehicles were all parked outside so he could lay out all the pieces and sort it out. So 2 days for the actual assembly and a few hours to sort the millions of pieces of wood. LolAs a spectator, I can understand all the whining in the reviews. I get it. I can totally picture the type of people that just don’t have the brains cut for this project. I’m one of those! If I was a single mother, I’ll be on the Nextdoor app looking for a handyman in the area. 🤣 That’s for sure! And I know some men that are not just cut for this either (they usually have soft hands sssh). My husband is an auto industry white collar engineer for one of the big 3. So he has the engineering intelligence that’s why I had zero worries about the assembly part.The playset already experienced heavy rain. My husband checked on it in the morning and he said the clubhouse inside was pretty dry. So the roof does work like a real roof. He actually entertained the idea that he might add shingles lol but looks like that’s unnecessary.The trickiest part putting this together was the slide. This was the only step where he literally called me to hold something down. It’s a long sheet and you have to bend it to insert in the wavy seams. I had to hold it down firmly while he was hammering it down after one side was inserted in the seams. That was it. That was the final add on and we celebrated right after. Literally!! 🍾Kids are so happy! Mission accomplished!Looking forward for the summer and the many core memories this will create. And I really hope it holds up well in our extreme weathers here in Michigan.P.S. if you have a very strong opinion against China products, you probably shouldn’t get this. There’s a steel plate screwed on the clubhouse with all the warnings and disclaimers. And the China origin with province and everything in bold is clearly written on there. This is beautiful. Took me 3 days to put up all by myself. Instruction is very clear and everything intact. Highly recommendable!!

After reading the torrents of people whining about assembly time, I decided that I wanted to take on the challenge solo and prove that it\'s not as bad as everyone thought.I don\'t consider myself particularly competent at any type of woodworking but I dabble in average handyman type projects all the time. Frieght delivery driver was amazing and knew his stuff, which is good because the pallet weighs close to 600 lbs. So I took my time to lay everything out and account for the massive packing list the 2 boxes that were delivered contained. There were 2 blemished boards but not worth the trouble to return/ask for parts so just repaired the 2 boards and continued on.As far as the assembly, yes it takes a long time. But there are somewhere around 1000 pieces that have to be put together. And when the instruction manual is 96 steps(most of which are installing one or two boards) it takes time. Even if every step took 10 minutes to complete, that\'s 16 hours. And most steps take a minute or two given you have organized all the hardware and parts according to number and letter. It took me right around 8 or 9 hours over the course of a few evenings after work to complete entirely by myself. Just finished installing it today and I can honestly say this thing seems cheapy from the pictures but it held my 190lbs up just fine in the fort. And with the anchors installed correctly this things going nowhere.So TDLR: If you want to save at minimum $1000 dollars for a well built playset and have the ability to follow simple instructions consistent with Lego build sets, I highly recommend this set.

some wood pieces split even with not sinking the screws in so deep and the wood quality wasn't the greatest.

My grandkids have had the best times on this set! It’s a couple of years old and we relocated it to another house after a move and it withstood that like a champ! Well worth every penny!

Best of both worlds between swingset and playhouse. Plus the price was very reasonable so we could afford the installation too. I'm very impressed with this company and the installation company that have on hand. Highly recommend!

My granddaughter loves this. My son put this together and we all played inside the room under slide and the top room. Excellent buy and quality. I highly recommend

I wasn't sure we could put this together ourselves when I ordered it, but it turns out that the directions are so clear and the parts so well marked that we did this as a family project over 2 days, and succeeded! Our 2-year old granddaughter absolutely LOVES it. It's the first thing she goes to when she comes to our house. The only thing I would suggest is adding the directions that the pieces be painted with the weatherproofing prior to building, the first year. Easy to apply weatherproofing thereafter. Thanks for such a great product!

Only problem I had was that I a few boards that were banged up from shipping. Still used them but one in particular is already peeling.

Purchased the play set for Christmas. Took me a while to get to it. However when we did the instructions where easy to follow. Everything fit perfectly as advertised. Great addition to our yard and our kids love playing on it. It's made out of good quality material and easy to up keep.

My parents bought this swing set for our daughter and she absolutely loves it. She is always playing on it. It was very easy to figure out the parts because they were all marked. We love having this swing set and our daughter will use it for many years to come!
